I normally don&#8217;t write directly about something I&#8217;m going to be working on because I hate vaporware, but in this case it&#8217;s necessary.<\/p>\n<p>I am going to be running <a href=\"http:\/\/www-01.ibm.com\/employment\/us\/extremeblue\/\">an IBM Extreme Blue project<\/a> this summer where the intent is to build some technology to learn about how we can use Big Data techniques to analyze <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jedi.be\/blog\/2010\/02\/12\/what-is-this-devops-thing-anyway\/\">DevOps<\/a> data. We will be using the Hadoop family of technologies for the data crunching and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Representational_State_Transfer\">REST<\/a> \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/DesignIssues\/LinkedData.html\">Linked Data<\/a> to help gather the data to be crunched.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a twelve week project, I&#8217;ll be mentoring but the students really drive it, and we&#8217;ll also be getting a little help from my friends &#8211; my Tivoli colleagues Don Cronin and Andrew Trossman (who created some\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www-03.ibm.com\/press\/us\/en\/pressrelease\/33840.wss\">schweet new cloud technology<\/a> we&#8217;ll be using),\u00c2\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/jazz.net\/\">Jazz<\/a> team, Rod Smith and David Sink&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibm.com\/jstart\">JStart team<\/a>,\u00c2\u00a0and possibly some folks from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watson.ibm.com\/\">the Yorktown Research lab<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of being crunched, we have a compressed schedule to find candidates and we already have some great candidates interviewing, so if you&#8217;re interested and you fit the profile below, please feel free to <a href=\"http:\/\/www-01.ibm.com\/employment\/us\/extremeblue\/apply_us.html\">apply<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the details:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>When:<\/strong> May 23rd to Aug 12 2011<\/li>\n<li><strong>Where:<\/strong> Raleigh, NC<\/li>\n<li><strong>Requirements:<\/strong> Formal requirements <a href=\"http:\/\/www-01.ibm.com\/employment\/us\/extremeblue\/apply_us.html\">here<\/a>; my requirement: must be super passionate about technology and building great software<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pay etc.:<\/strong> Competitive pay, furnished apartment, travel\/relocation, trip to IBM HQ in Armonk for a Big Demo, IBM swag (because you know you want it)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Basically I plan on making it a very intense and fun project.
